Jude Bellingham Needs to Drop the Immature behavior to Secure a Key Role In Tuchel.

If Jude Bellingham aims to force his way once again into the English strongest squad, he would be wise to do away with the nonsense. His reaction after noticing that his number was going up after a match of mixed performance in Tirana fell short of expectations.

"I don’t want to overstate it but I hold to my words 'conduct is crucial' and consideration for the teammates who substitute on," stated Tuchel. "Substitutions happen and you need to comply when you're on the field."

There is a lesson for Bellingham. There was no need for a strop. The captain had only moments earlier made it England two goals ahead in a dead rubber qualifier, there were six minutes left and he, who had not played particularly well, had just been booked for bringing down the Albanian striker. This could scarcely be called a controversial substitution. Indeed it would have been foolish for the head coach to keep Bellingham on the pitch because there was a chance Bellingham would make himself ineligible of the initial fixture of the World Cup by getting a another booking.

Shifting Focus Upon Himself

But Bellingham made himself the center of attention. It was impossible to miss the 22-year-old’s frustration upon understanding that he would be substituted for a teammate. He flung his arms in the air and even though he shook Tuchel’s hand after making his way to the bench it was obvious that Tuchel was displeased.

Here lies the test that Bellingham must overcome. He congratulated Rashford for delivering the cross for Harry Kane to head in his second of the night, but his other actions was counterproductive. It is not as if arguing was going to alter the decision. Tuchel has repeatedly emphasized following squad protocols and the necessity of acting professionally.

Under Scrutiny

He, left out of last month’s squad, has been under scrutiny after returning to the team in the current camp. In effect his place has been in question and he hasn't helped his case with his response to his substitution as the side completed a flawless qualification run by overcoming a tough opposition from Albania.

The Coach's Plan

It means it's unclear on how the team perform optimally with Bellingham in the team. The performance was not definitive. Some new ideas were tested from the manager in the beginning. Under him, England have gained the squad organization and direction in recent months, building with a No 6, a central midfielder, a No 10 and specialist wingers, but there was a different feel versus Albania. Jarell Quansah was given his first cap, Adam Wharton started for the first time internationally and the positioning of John Stones as a makeshift midfielder meant there was faint echo to the Manchester club's 2023 treble winners.

A Game of Two Halves

Bellingham had ups and downs. He set up a shot for Eze during the second half but frequently appeared overly eager to shine. There were a lot of poorly executed passes. An unnecessary confrontation with a rival player in the early stages. England were ragged for much of the second half. One Albania chance came after Bellingham gave the ball away. His caution was shown after he lost the ball by Broja and brought down the attacker.

Squad Strength Shows

In the end the bench quality was decisive. The coach brought on Phil Foden, who looked more naturally fitted to the position in which Bellingham operated in the opening period, and Bukayo Saka. Eventually Saka delivered a corner for Kane to open the scoring. It was a reminder that corners and free-kicks are going to be vital at the World Cup.

Connection Remains

However, the focus was on Bellingham. The excellence of the winger's delivery for Kane's goal was a little lost due to the fuss of the player change. At the end, the focus was on him. Tuchel walked up behind him and directed the Real Madrid midfielder towards the travelling England fans. The bond between them is not damaged. The coach isn't ready to give up on the player just yet. However, whether he is willing to grant him a starring role is still uncertain.
