The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Reveals He Knows How The Apple TV+ Show Will End... At the Moment.

The acclaimed writer-producer did not foresee that his new science-fiction series would emerge as a massive hit. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he remarks. “I was surprised by the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

Now that Season 1 of the hit series reaching its finale—and a second season greenlit and underway—Gilligan and his team recently discussed the fan response and whether it will influence the storyline of Pluribus.

Regarding the Incredible Viewer Reception

One could easily to get swayed by the constant speculation and audience predictions regarding Pluribus. He is doing his best to avoid both.

“It feels like an endless supply of your favorite dessert and being tickled to death,” he describes. “It's wonderful, but I learn of it anecdotally, and that's by design. Not once have I searched for my own name online, nor do I ever intend to. Not because I don't care. It's a bottomless pit I know I would fall into and then I'd be living in squalor from the hardware store and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Regardless of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no escaping the immensely favorable response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to take it in stride and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We make no attempt to change the plot,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not impacted by what people are saying.”

“Better to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan adds.

The Central Mystery: Does the creator Know the Conclusion of Pluribus?

Considering Gilligan and his team aren't taking cues by public opinion, does it imply they have already decided how Pluribus will finally conclude? The answer is yes… with some caveats.

“We have some interesting ideas about where the show might end up,” Gilligan says. “however, we remain prepared to discard a decent plan for a more brilliant plan. That philosophy has guided us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we get a better idea and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

Then again, if they hit a wall, executive producer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to serve as a last resort.

“I constantly suggest that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and the characters are inside it,” Smith jokes, “but no one is buying it.”

Of course, one could always use the iconic TV endings?

“My dream is Carol to awaken beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV.
