NFL 2025 season: Week six
Live coverage includes live text for Sunday's games on various channels, beginning with Denver Broncos v New York Jets at Tottenham (from 14:00 BST). Also, audio coverage is available through select stations covering a separate game (beginning at 9 PM BST).
We're in the sixth week of the football calendar , after last week's talk about the Buffalo Bills and Philadelphia Eagles being a potential Super Bowl match-up, they both surrendered their unbeaten records.
Notable in those games was the number of penalties each committed. Philadelphia committed them at crucial times so they essentially beat themselves after leading by two touchdowns going into the fourth period versus the Denver Broncos, set to play overseas this Sunday.
But it was good to see how Denver quarterback Bo Nix managed to overcome that deficit before direct three scoring drives on three possessions in the fourth quarter, to win the game 21-17.
The Broncos boast the defensive player of the year in CB Pat Surtain II. They rank number one in red zone defence, while the Eagles lead the league in scoring near the end zone, yet the Broncos won that contest.
They had the Eagles' number regarding disguised blitzes. They weren't always sending more than four defenders instead they could plug two LBs in the 'A' gap before drop them out and send a slot defender off the edge.
Early on of the season, it was noted during a show that the Broncos could be the current year's dark horses. They finished last season well then excelled of building upon that.
Could Denver be this season's underdog story?
Recently acquired TE their tight end has stepped up big while recent RB their rusher is a guy the team trusts. He's currently fifth league-wide for rushing yards (over 400) and tied for fourth for rushing touchdowns (4).
It's impressive that the coach Sean Payton displays "RUSH!" prominently on his call sheet.
That shows that Denver are a team aiming to run first, since one can achieve much based on that approach. It slows down the pass rush while maintains in favourable down and distances.
It's also helped QB Bo Nix, who came the NFL as the 12th overall draft pick last year, passing for 29 TDs – second only to a star QB in rookie records (31 in 2020).
Josh Allen and Herbert possess powerful arms to pass all over, however they don't move in the same way as Nix. He has exceptional passing ability, which is different, and he's highly agile.
His assets are his mobility, the capacity to throw while moving, and using varied release points to make the pass as he moves outside protection, on rollouts. He can deliver precision throws across the middle or past defenders.
As a rookie QB, at 25, he displays great composure under pressure and is not bothered by the blitz. He tries to evade being tackled whenever possible and is able throw in tight spots. He has sharp intelligence and remains very decisive.
If you consistently run the ball it consumes time and forces the defence to stay on the field for longer, and when you've got a mobile QB the defense must defend the field vertically and horizontally. This proves exhausting.
Nix has pushed back with the coach on the sideline sometimes and it seems Payton appreciates that attitude, that he's a fierce rival. I think it's exciting for the coach to have a young quarterback that is kind of like play-dough. The coach can truly develop him how he desires to build it. I believe it's a unique opportunity for him.
The head coach has won a championship and now passed a legend in all-time victories (173, tying for 14th). He's seen it all. I think the achievements Denver are having on offence is mostly down to his guidance, his play-calling, his game sense – and the pairing with Nix aids shape him what he is.
There's no better a better guy in your ear, to help you through some of the tougher situations and boost confidence.
I believe in Denver's defence, in the QB's grit and calm. But is the team good enough to go against an elite team at its best? Because that wasn't championship-level play by the Eagles in their last game.
Currently, it's unlikely Denver are elite. They're working better than most, that's a solid position to hold their division. The key to do to continue this trajectory.
They're really good at leaning into their forte, which is the ground game, and that's exactly what they should do versus the New York Jets at Tottenham. It will likely be the JK Dobbins show, in essence.
The Jets have surrendered 140 yards on the ground each contest (among the worst), five rushing touchdowns so far (10th worst), and they're the sole squad without a win a game.
Ever since the NFL began tracking turnovers decades ago, the Jets are the inaugural squad to go without any turnovers through five games, which is surprising considering that the head coach was previously defensive co-ordinator at the Detroit Lions.
The Chiefs' QB says the Chiefs have 'already lost too many games' following Monday's defeat to Jacksonville.
Following this Sunday's game, the Broncos face a manageable slate up to their bye (in week twelve) - the New York Giants, the Cowboys, the Texans plus the Raiders before the Kansas City Chiefs.
In the AFC West, Kansas City are 2-3 and the Broncos are tied with the Chargers on 3-2 meaning they could challenge for the top of the division.
It depends on what version of the Chiefs they meet because the Broncos {beat|def
